Targeted direct mail
Direct mail still works, exceptionally well, IF it’s the right offer delivered to the right audience at the right time. In other words, if it’s relevant it’s not junk.

Roughly 50% of the success of a dm campaign depends on the prospect mailing lists, 30% on the ‘offering’ and 20% on the ‘creative’. The structure and language of the message is absolutely crucial in delivering the tried and tested AICDA formula to generate leads:

  • Attention
  • Interest
  • Credibility
  • Desire
  • (call to) Action

First you must get Attention with a good heading, an interesting picture or an unusual shape or size. If you don’t do that it doesn’t matter how good your offering is! Secondly, you must gain Interest by identifying readers’ needs and explaining the benefits of your product or service. Thirdly, you must gain Credibility by using ‘proof points’ such as case studies, testimonials, industry comment, facts and figures. When you’ve done all that, you must generate Desire for your product or service and compel the reader to respond with a strong Call to Action.
